End of Life of CentOS 5 and PHP versions previous to 5.3
The software industry is constantly evolving: new functionalities, better performance, enhanced security.
Novohit is a web-based (cloud) platform that runs on Linux, one of the most stable, robust and widely used Operating Systems in the world.
In order for Novohit to stay at the forefront of the software industry due to its cutting edge technology, the complete server environment must be updated and renewed to the latest stable enterprise releases of Operative System and Kernel libraries, such as PHP and PostgreSQL.
As of 2014, some functionalities and modules are only compatible with CentOS 6, PHP 5.3+, and PostgreSQL 9+.
How does this affect our customers?
Novohit undergoes minor updates throughout the year. Some of these updates are not compatible, and as a result, they will not be able to be installed.
Novohit’s new functionalities are sent along with the so-called “Major Updates”, which are only compatible with the latest Operating System versions.
The new modules that have been released or updated in 2014 will not be compatible. These include:
What can our clients do to stay up to date?
If your server (hardware equipment) was acquired more than 3 years ago, clients should consider taking action, because as mentioned in our installation proposals and knowledgebase documents, servers have a product life cycle ranging from 3 to 5 years (maximum). This is due to the fact that the equipment is turned on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and are subject to voltage variations, high temperatures, and physical wear (hardware).
It is strongly suggested to completely renovate server equipment (and eventualy Workstation equipment), according to novohit’s specifications, ensures:
To obtain the server specifications list, please contact our Tech Support Department, and our staff will gladly assist you.
The partial renovation of your server equipment (e.g. hard disk only) is not recommended. However, a decisive factor is whether the complete server is less than 3 years old.
