WAN Internet Requirements

WAN Internet Requirements

As of 2022, Novohit's official requirement is to have two independent internet lines as suggested in this article.

For any Novohit® Cloud service, Novohit Backups, Novohit SYNC, Novohit Private Cloud or Support Service are fundamental requirements:

Internet Access

1.-Broadband between 4 and 8 Mbps real synchronous (upload and download) and dedicated exclusively to the administrative, operational or work network, i.e.: it must not be shared with public Internet. The reference is for every 20 concurrent users (operating simultaneously).

2.-In some cases, for security reasons, it is necessary for the main branch to have a fixed IP. This will be communicated by the Novohit Support team during the data collection.

3.-The connection must work constantly, without long interruptions, intermittency or high latency levels.

The connection must work constantly, without long interruptions, intermittency or high latency levels.
The higher the speed, the better the services and access speed as well as the user experience.

Additional Tips

To avoid access outages due to failure of the main internet access (cable cut, downtime, etc.), it is suggested to have a backup internet access line in conjunction with a load balancer. The additional line can be:
  1. with another ISP with independent WAN (you must have an independent physical connection between the ISP and your company).
  2. with MB (Mobile Broadband) or Uplink (satellite) devices.

Example of Load Balancer Implementation with BAM Backup Line

The following examples are only suggestions. Novohit is not affiliated with any of these companies, brands or products. Remember that your network must comply with Novohit's LAN standards (see here) so these devices are not a substitute for our documentation. You and your network implementer are responsible for your implementation and should make sure that the equipment recommended here meets the load of your specific network.

You can install a LoadBalancer Router with at least 2 WAN entries such as any of the following:
  1. Simple Load Balancer: Peplink Balance 20 Dual-WAN Router
  2. Advanced Load Balancer integrated to Router: Any of the Mikrotik Recommended Routers must have multi-WAN Load Balancing.
And for the second line, you can place a BAM (Mobile Broadband), Hot Spot or a Router with SIM Capacity that can be easily found in the market.

Additional WAN Considerations for Local Server (On Premises)

  1. A separate line is always recommended between the one for end customer use and the one for operating personnel for security and stability.
  2. A secondary backup line is always recommended (see previous examples).
  3. Broadly speaking, Novohit's WAN data consumption in local server mode (on premises) is as follows:
  4. Remote access by your users outside the LAN (if applicable).
  5. Remote access by the Novohit Support team.
  6. Daily backups as indicated in the SLA, approx.:
  7. twice daily transfers of 500Mb to 1Gb per transaction in a time arc of 10 to 15 minutes.
  8. Electronic Invoices every 8 to 15 minutes a few Mb per transfer, in a time arc of 45 seconds.
  9. Updates by Novohit Support Team (a few Mb per-transfer, in a time arc of up to 4 hours)
  10. Issuance of electronic invoices (e.g., PAC stamping, DTE issuance)
  11. Synchronization of prices, rates, products, availability with online E-commerce channels or Channel Manager.
In case of Local Server, the main recommendation is line stability and low latency. Speed is not the most relevant unless you have a significant number of users accessing your server from outside the Internet.

Additional WAN Considerations for the Cloud

The considerations for the cloud are the same as for on premises servers. However, the difference is that a secondary WAN internet line connected to a network equipment with Fail Over capability is a fundamental requirement, not just a recommendation. This is because in the cloud, all workstations require constant internet access in order to operate.
In case of Cloud, line stability and low latency are fundamental requirements. Speed plays a relevant role especially when you have a significant number of users (15+) accessing Novohit.
In case of Cloud, it is a fundamental requirement to have a secondary line in case of failure.
