How to connect payment methods to my reservation engine?

Is it possible to authorize payments on a persons card when they reserve, but not process the charge completely until I review the reservation?

Some processors allow this, but by default, Authorization and Registration is always done immediately. It would have to be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Can payments be received by PayPal but also by credit card?

Yes, multiple payment processors can be activated in conjunction with PayPal, e.g. Stripe and PayPal, or Transbank and PayPal, or Cybersource and PayPal.

Is it possible to give customers the option to charge them a % to reserve the room, and then have them pay the rest upon arrival in cash?

Yes, HotelRSV accepts both the % and the number of nights as a guarantee. Normally we recommend 50% or 1 night. There are many rejected transactions or errors in the Credit Card Transaction reports HotelRSV delegates the processing of credit cards to the payment processors, in your case PayPal and Transbank. The payment errors have to do with how the payment processor executes the transaction: denied, invalid, fraud, no funds, unauthorized, etc... This depends on the control policies of each payment processor, the issuing bank of the card and the brand of the credit card; HotelRSV has no interference in this decision, only the result of the payment processor is received.

Why are there many cancelled reservations from the same person?

Finally we clarify that for each payment attempt, a new reservation is generated. The reservation is immediately cancelled and HotelRSV awaits the response from the payment processor. If the payment processor returns SUCCESSFUL, the reservation is re-activated and confirmation emails are sent and the reservation is synchronized in Novohit. If the processor returns DENIED/NO-AUTHORIZED/etc. the reservation is cancelled. In the rare cases where the payment processor returns ERROR/NOT-PROCESSED the reservation is cancelled and an alert messages is triggered. This is to keep specific control of each transaction.

"Pending" reservations can be handled until our reservations department reviews them for confirmation.

Yes, but it is not recommended with electronic payments, since the electronic payment confirms in real time the registration of the buyer's funds.

In any case, credit card payment is one of several optional methods to Guarantee or "pay" for a reservation. You can accept other methods such as "Pay at Hotel", "Wire Transfer", "Invoice me later" or simply a "Handshake Guarantee". Each guarantee or payment method will have an associated status: CONFIRMED or PENDING. Normally CONFIRMED is assigned to reservations paid by credit/debit card/PayPal. PENDING is assigned to guarantees or payment methods at destination or that do not have automatic validation in real time.

In the latter case (PENDING), all reservations that have not been manually confirmed by your staff will automatically expire when a certain date is reached (before check-in) and therefore the inventory will be released again.

Once you have verified the reservation, you can log into the hotelRSV Dashboard, confirm the reservation and send the guest an automatic email to notify them.

The activation of the automatic CONFIRMED status is only suggested when the hotel/property guarantee policy provides for immediate payment without option of refund (usually 1 night), but it depends on the hotel.

Can I apply Credit Card Payment only on certain occasions?

Yes, any Guarantee (Form of Payment) may be shown to the end user in certain circumstances. For example, it may apply for "Non-Refundable" Rate types or for certain promotions. This can be configured by defining the Season level that applies in Reservation Guarantees and then in Define Seasons.

Are there non-electronic payment methods, such as Pay at Destination?
